Lutherans believe in the historic Christian faith as explained in the Apostles Creed and the Nicene Creed.
Lutherans emphasize grace alone, faith alone and scripture alone.
Come on in and give us a try…more importantly, connect with the One who gave himself for YOU. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him”. (John 3:16-17).
That’s fine. Come and learn what we are about.
The Lutheran Church was named after its founder Martin Luther, though he himself preferred that they should just be called Christians. In the 16th century, Luther challenged some of the teachings and practices of the church of his time, calling the church back to its roots in Scripture. The change that followed became known as the Reformation.
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is both true God and true man. As the Word of God in flesh, He came and died for our sins that we might be forgiven. After three days He rose from the dead and ascended into Heaven where He sits at the right hand of God the Father, to judge the living and the dead. He will return in His Second Coming to usher in the New Heaven and the New Earth.
We receive God’s forgiveness through His Son, Jesus Christ. It is a gift; we don’t have to earn it. As the Spirit of God begins work in our lives he makes us conscious of our sin and failure. What we call “conscience” is a God-given gift to lead us to confess our sin to God and ask His forgiveness.
Faith, (a gift from God) is the conviction that Jesus died for us and that through Him we are forgiven. Faith is simply trust in God alone.
You receive faith as you hear or read of the Good News of Jesus Christ as revealed in the Bible.
At Trinity we celebrate Holy Communion in the glad confidence that our Lord gives us not only bread and wine, but His very body and blood to eat and to drink, for the forgiveness of sins and to strengthen our union with Him and with one another. Our Lord invites to His table those who have faith in His words, repent of all sin, and forgive and love others as Jesus forgives and loves us.
1 Corinthians 11:27-28 says: “So then whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in a way that is unworthy [of Him] will be guilty of [profaning and sinning against] the body and blood of the Lord. Let a man [thoroughly] examine himself, and [only when he has done] so should he eat of the bread and drink of the cup.” If you have not yet been formally instructed or are in doubt about our beliefs about communion, please speak to a pastor or an elder before communing.
Those not receiving the sacrament, including small children, are encouraged to cross their arms over their chest, and receive a special blessing from the Pastors.
If it is physically difficult for you to come to the Altar for communion, you can speak with a pastor or elder prior to the service to arrange for the Sacrament to be brought to you!
