Day 3

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

Recognizing that we are feeling anxious is part of overcoming it. In the midst of anxiety and stress we don’t always see the full effect that it is having on us. We think of anxiety as affecting us mentally, but it can also have huge impacts on us physically.

What are some of the physical feelings or symptoms you experience when you feel anxious?

Jesus invites us to come to him when we are weary and burdened. When we feel not only the mental exhaustion but also the physical exhaustion of anxiety, Jesus offers us rest. The hardest thing for us to do is to slow down and stop so that we can finally receive that rest. We move at break-neck speed hoping that somewhere in all of it we will find rest. The truth is, if we want to rest, we must force ourselves to take a sabbath. We need to set aside time to truly rest in Him. Look at your calendar and carve out a time in which you will intentionally rest from your labors. Find a way to unplug, turn off, and tune in to moments of quietness, stillness, and peace.
