Hebrews 7:25

Hebrews 7:25

25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.

The “he” who is able to save is Christ. We don’t normally consider the fact that Christ lives and is seated at the right hand of God to intercede for us. He stands between God and us making sure that His blood covers all our sins, that we are forgiven and remain in God’s love and grace. It is part of the ongoing, yet unseen work of Christ. There is nothing flashy about it, but it is one of the most essential and important acts of salvation. By interceding for us, Christ paves a way from us to come to the Father and find mercy, grace and forgiveness for our sins rather the wrath and judgment.

When Abigail threw herself down before David, she was interceding for her foolish husband Nabal. He had awoken the anger of David and David was on the war path with 400 men in tow. But Abigail, offered herself before these great fighting men in order to protect her husband. Through her wise and gracious acts, Nabal’s life was spared (though he ended up dying of a stroke a day later) and David was spared the shame of having vengeful blood on his hands.

Consider what areas of your life do you need Christ to continue to intercede for you and think about what areas of life might you find yourself needing to intercede for another. This noble and sacrificial work is the work of Christ in our lives.
